WHY A MEMBERS AREA

This area has been a part of my websites for over a decade, but until now always in a hidden page. Only my students and colleagues would be given the details of the page (though no doubt it would have been easy enough to find it).

I decided to make it visible to anyone so that the resources within would be more widely accessible. There is a one-off AUS$20 fee for the password to the Members Area. The password will change regularly, but once you have paid the fee, you will be always be able to request the new password.

I will email you the password for the Members Area after you pay for it here. Once you have paid, please send me an email telling me so.

The fee is a way of acknowledging the work that is represented in the materials available for download in this area (see below).

For example, the nearly eighty scores of Chikuho honkyoku were originally hand-written by Chikuho Sakai II or another member of the organisation. In 1981, Chikuho II gave me permission to disseminate the scores, but he asked that I charge only for the ‘cost’ of doing so, in the spirit of reciprocity. Likewise the dozens of recordings within the Members Area also represent hours of time spent on not only recording the pieces, but also on learning them in the first place.

BTW, these scores are no longer used by Shodo Sakai, the present iemoto or head of the Chikuho lineage, but they are the ones I used to learn from Chikuho II, and so are invaluable to me. Many thanks to Stuart Ransom for having originally scanned all of the honkyoku.
