Haleakala, a dormant volcano and the most prominent feature of the island of Maui, is a very special place. Of course, the whole island chain of Hawai’i is special, but Haleakala is exceptional even in Hawai’i. It’s Hawaiian name, meaning the House of the Sun, communicates the significance it has among the original inhabitants of Hawai’i. Jeff Peterson grew up on the slopes of Haleakala and his ohana (family) still live there.
It is fitting that he has created a recording celebrating this special place, and it is an honour for me to be a part of this recording.
