One of my favourite CDs, Nalu has been re-released on the Sound of Bamboo label. This recording features folk harpist Andy Rigby, with a guest appearance by harpist Rebecca Hood. “Nalu” means ‘surf’ in the Hawaiian language.
In the piece, “El Sueño” (The Dream) you can hear one of the longest phrases I have ever played – ever. On the day of the recording, when I first listened back to this piece, which Andy and I largely improvised, I was stunned. Where did that come from!?! Certainly not from me, at least in any conscious or planned way. How fortunate that it was recorded!
I’ve given you about 45 seconds of music leading into this serendipitous phrase, so that you can hear it in context.
