We hope that you enjoy our new website. All of the best parts of the old site (articles, Riley’s complete PhD thesis, reviews) have been retained. Here’s what’s new:
The CD and DVD catalogues have been completely revamped. For the first time, you are able to download immediately, the majority of Riley’s CDs and individual tracks from those CDs. You can still order hard copies of most of the albums and DVDs in the catalogues from this website.
You can now listen to samples of nearly 300 tracks from the CDs in the catalogue.
A previously ‘hidden’ page is now visible as a “Members Area” section, but it requires a password. In the Members section are recordings of and notation for honkyoku that I teach. There are scores for about 80 honkyoku, all of which Riley learned from Chikuho Sakai II during his ‘intensive training period’ in the early 1970s. He has made recordings of 30 of these pieces, and each month, he plans to add to the list. There will be eventually approximately 100 recordings, all played on a standard 1.8 shakuhachi, better to help you study, practice and learn these pieces.
We will let you know how to receive a password for the Members area in a later post.
Riley’s schedule of performances has been and will continue to be updated.
In the near future, you will see other features, such as downloadable shakuhachi lessons and scores, a new, downloadable shakuhachi piece each month, and other features.
The biggest change in the website however, is that it is now much easier for us to maintain, update, add to, and continue to improve upon.
Please let me know what you think and how we can improve this site. Thank you.
Patricia and Riley.
